Little Island Festival

LITTLE ISLANDS FESTIVAL / Sikinos (GR)
23 August – 26 August

The LIF is ultimately a modern, collective feast for the eyes that recreates the public space and creates new landscapes in old places:

” Through the festival, we seek to act as a link between the little islands and modern art and technology, to support artists both from the local community and every other place, and to highlight the intangible cultural heritage, the beauty and the power of every small community all around the world, and more specifically of the islands. We want to be part of the place but also part of the trip, just like every small island does. So every year we choose a new story to tell, a new path to follow, a brand new small place to host the festival. In collaboration with artists experimenting with the audiovisual arts, we support the creative community, encourage the exchange of ideas and knowledge, and actively support the interaction between place, artist and visitor. At the same time, through educational workshops and open talks, we aim at educating children and adolescents living on small islands and raising the awareness of the local community on issues of art and technology.

The first edition of the festival was held in 2018 in the traditional settlement “Kastro”, on the island of Sikinos. Under the title ‘Something to Remember’, 57 works of artists from 23 countries were screened, tracking the meaning of Memory and how it shapes the collective and personal identity. Placed in key locations around the narrow streets of the settlement, documentaries, short films, animation, and video art were screened. The audience had the opportunity to get acquainted with prominent Greek filmmakers during open talks and also to enjoy historical photographic and video material from the island of Sikinos itself, to appreciate the place they cross. The path between the screenings was enriched by soundscapes and the route every night finished with video performance. ”
